1st SALZKAMMERGUT MARATHON

16th October 2011
Starting at 9:30am in Bad Ischl, around Lake Wolfgangsee and finishing in St. Wolfgang

 A running dream is realised
The “Salzkammergut Marathon” is a completely new and unique challenge over the classic 42.195km distance. Starting in the Imperial town of Bad Ischl, the course leads through Pfandl and Wirling (first refreshment point) to the Gasthof Bürglstein, before joining the original course of the 27km classic race. The course continues on through St. Wolfgang (second refreshment point), over the Falkenstein cliff to St. Gilgen, onto Strobl and to the finishing line in St. Wolfgang. The scenery, in a class of its own, adds to the enjoyment of this marathon.

 informations
The International Race “Around Lake Wolfgangsee” is not only a run with cult status, but also one which is, for many runners, elite athletes and running-enthusiasts alike, the culmination of their running season

The same spectacle time and time again:

Almost 2,500 sports men and women crowd behind the starting line, nervously hopping from one foot to the other and stretching, the signature tune fades … and the clock begins to tick - ten, nine, eight… then, shattering the silence, the gun goes off, the tension is released and a hurricane is let loose. The synchronised start means everyone sets off at the same time - 10.30am on the dot - in St. Wolfgang for the 27km Classic, in Gschwendt for the 10km Shore-side run and in Strobl for the 5.2km Panorama run.

Three distances and one finishing line:

Distances to suit every taste, from the 27km Classic circular run to the 5.2km romantic Panorama run – this year open to men! This means that the yearned-for finish in St. Wolfgang’s atmospheric Market Square beckons to everyone, with its frenetically applauding spectators and personal greeting from the speaker. The combination of atmosphere, perfect organisation, sporting challenge and scenic experience has come to be the hallmark of the Lake Wolfgangsee run. Put quite simply, this is not just the running event of the year in the Salzkammergut, it’s a lot, lot more!

Lake Wolfgangsee TEAM-MARATHON for families, friends, companies and clubs:

Back again this year because of its great success, this, the blue riband event of long-distance running, is run over 42.2 km as a threesome (team event) with differing individual distances of 27km, 10km and 5.2km – all with the same starting time, same finishing line and free boat-transfer – only on Lake Wolfgangsee! Put a team of men or women (or indeed a mixed team) together a.s.a.p – not forgetting that the respective distances of 27km, 10km and 5.2km are to be covered and that the team names are to be registered together and at the same time. The first three teams in every category will each receive a Lake Wolfgangsee trophy.

Our unmistakable hallmarks:

A runners’ “Cocktail party” on the pre-race evening; a free boat-transfer to the start; six wayside refreshment stands; valuable commemorative medals; 230 trophies; new this year – professional running t-shirts; availability of finishing-area massage; expert public commentary en route - in St. Gilgen, Strobl and at the finishing line; professional photography services; innumerable spectators along the length of the course; a recognised event; a welcoming atmosphere; child care on race-Sunday…

NB:

You really should not miss this event - Austria’s most attractive running extravaganza! Register now! By registering for the classic 27 km race and the 10km Shore-side run before 30th June, you save € 6 and for the 5.2km Panorama run you save € 4.
